Romantic Coastal Walks
By Judy Churchill
This time we’re going on an effortless coastal stroll around the breathtakingly beautiful and very romantic Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat. If you are looking for the perfect walk to celebrate valentine’s day with your loved one, then this is definitely the one. The views of the coast line, the deep blue of the sea in contrast to the rocky greenery of the shore and way the light bounces on and off the water will delight and enchant you. There are many places to stop, sit and reflect on the beauty of the surroundings and meditate on life in general.
I also recommend visiting the beautiful, historical Villa and gardens of Ephrussi de Rothschild while you are in Saint Jean, http://www.villa-ephrussi.com. The commented tour of the house and stroll around the amazing gardens are something I never tire of. You can also have lunch in the restaurant and make a day of it.
“This walk takes a total of 2 hours (not allowing for stops) and is suitable for the whole family with a gradient of only 60 m. The distance you will cover is 5.9 km“
To start the walk, either drive (or take the train) to Saint-Jean and park in one of the car parks opposite the port. From the port, walk back up the high street (lined with small boutiques) and talk a left turn into avenue Claude Vigneron. If you can’t find this, your GPS on your telephone will. Walk along the street and then through a metal gate into a residential area leading to a clearing where the coastal path starts. Stay on this scenic coastal path (don’t miss the light house) until you reach the Passable beach from where you go up the steps onto the road. Cross the D.25 and just in front of the tourist office you will see a short cut back to the centre of Saint-Jean. The yellow way markers will help you and you can plot this circuit out on IGN map n° 3742 OT “Nice-Menton”. For the French speakers, you can also find this walk on https://randoxygene.departement06.fr/littoral/tour-du-cap-ferrat-9335.html.
Although this is an easy walk and can be done in trainers with no special equipment, I still recommend you wear proper walking shoes and take your ruck sack with water and a protein bar.

Enjoy your valentine’s walk and I can assure you, you will want to come back and redo this walk again and again and again
