Spring at the The Wine Palace

The Wine Palace is more than an elegant boutique to enjoy wine with friends or conduct a business meeting. Fortunate to hold one of the most inspiring views in Monaco, it is primarily an important cellar that boasts an impressive reservoir of fine wine.

The wines are selected with attention and knowledge, some being exclusive to Monte Carlo. All the staff have Sommeliers degrees which has gained them the respect with some of the most sought after and established wine estates. The Wine cellar references 2,300 different wines and offers a myriad of spirits. Cigars can also be purchased and enjoyed outside on the terrace which overlooks the port.

The Head Sommelier Yvan Gire worked in Courchevel in France for 25 years gaining some of the best contacts in the industry. With experienced Sommeliers the Wine Palace can work under allocation with many rare wines especially from boutique wine makers in Burgundy and New World Wines. Local wines are also popular and have developed long standing relationships with the Sommeliers.

Harboured underneath the Monaco Yacht Club the cellar attracts many clients from the yachting industry and locals. Big formats are popular. One in particular to the Wine Palace is the 3 liter Burgundy, Vougeot Clos du Prieuré from Domaine de la Vougeraie. This is limited to 3 bottles in 3 liter format.

One unique concept is the Wine Cellars ability through the Sommeliers connections to competitively price well known champagne and rare wines to drink in house or drink off the premises at the same price. This is unusual and certainly the only store in Monaco to offer this service. There is also tax free eligibility on wines and spirits. There is a complimentary in house delivery service either to your villa or yacht from Genova, Italy to Toulon, France.

Knowledge and experience is always at hand for enquiring customers. The cellar is temperature controlled and stocked with the top level wines such as the French Bordeaux Petrus. Petrus leads a duo of Pomerol estates that rank consistently among the world’s most expensive wines around 3,000 euros per bottle.

Petrus, however now has its rival Liber Pater. Pater being a modern twist of a 19th Century wine. Another famous and exceptional red wine is Romanee Conti also from Burgundy, this is under allocation with the Wine Palace, stocking one case per year. From the Côte de Nuits sub region of Burgundy, France, with Pinot noir as the primary grape variety. This wine is the most sought after, and expensive in the world. With record sales at Sothebys in New York in April 2013, four bottles were sold by Ferran Adria for 52,062 dollars. In 1780 the Archbishop of Paris declared it “ velvet and satin in bottles”.

Small, exclusive wine tasting events are held once a month, the most recent tasting to include Tokaj, a prestigious Hungarian wine. Tokay is the name of the wines from the Tokaj wine region in Hungary or the adjoining Tokaj wine region in Slovakia. Chateau Cos d’Estournel is also being tasted which has a long and distinguished history as a Bordeaux wine property in the St. Estephe appellation that is as interesting as the estate’s unique architecture. Louis Gaspard d’Estournel, gave his name to the estate after founding in 1811.

The wine palace as well as being a bank of knowledge for wine also serves coffee throughout the day and a welcome shaded area in the summer for relaxing and watching the world go by. Although it serves the Creme de la Creme of wine it also serves everyday drinking wine to be enjoyed either alone or with friends.

The interior is a cool twist of tradition and modern. Collaborating with the well known interior designer Sabrina, the Wine Palace is comfortable for all occasions. Contemporary art is displayed and the decoration is chosen by Sabrina inspired by the current trending designers and leading brands of furniture and table wear such as Lalique, Baccarat, Hermes and more.

Light snacks are served daily and there is a special Friday lunch offering three courses each served with a different complimentary wine for 25 euros. Private events can be organised and tailored to fit the clients requirements.

The future holds more bespoke events around collecting and drinking wine, art and trends in the collectables market.
