Vines, roses and mountains a pretty ‘mas’ property set at the foot of the Alps

by Kay Hare

Settled in a lush valley of trees this home will bring you peace, quiet and a place to entertain family and friends. Approximately five hectares, just over twelve acres, beautifully maintained with a winding drive into the estate, you find the house nestled in mature landscaped gardens. With the gentle back drop of sloping mountains, forty minutes from Marseilles International airport this French ’mas’ property dates back to 1863.

An abundance of white, pink and yellow roses guide you around the gravelled paths to the swimming pool, the tennis courts or a walk through olive trees accompanied with the fresh fragrance of lavender and rosemary.

The front entrance of the house is polite and pleasently shaded in the summer by an ancient cypress tree. Tables and chairs are immediately set outside the front courtyard area fixing the personality of the house with rest and comfort. Time can be stretched and created here.  With a cherry yellow facade of blonde stone and an abundance of foliage decorating the white shuttered windows the house radiates with a fun and happy ambiance.

Vines shade, twist and embrace the rear west facing dining area which is set for late breakfast or formal entertaining. This house has a story, many stories and a wedding would be easy to arrange and organise in this property, lending itself to secret gardens, romance and establishment. The pace is slow but defiantly not asleep, a snail sculpture crawls across the gardens knowing exactly where it is going.

Inside the property is a cool twist of modern and traditional decor. A jigsaw of pastel pinks dominate the stone floors with the odd yellow and deeper plum tiles providing the warmth that is welcomed in the winter months. Contemporary yellow walls, Mediterranean frescoes with wooden exposed beams gives space and a unique, original at home feeling.

The main house is an old ‘Mas’ built on two levels. A large entrance hall leads to the dining room to the West and a North facing fitted kitchen, with back-kitchen and a laundry room, opening onto a patio a beautiful terrace at West. On the East site, a large drawing room with stone fireplace, another drawing room onto a covered terrace at South. Wine cellar and strorage area.
